Eyes, up Guardians: Destiny is coming back as Bungie announces a new future for the series.
Destiny 2 won't stay in cryo sleep for long. Bungie today proudly proclaimed that more Destiny 2 stories and content is on the way, and fans are lighting up social media channels en masse. It gets better: All Destiny 2 content will also be removed from the DCV vault, meaning players will get access to tons more content. In short, Bungie is restoring the full Destiny 2 experience while simultaneously plotting new, never-before-played content.
"We are absolutely not done with Destiny. We have more stories to tell, but we have to do it right and give our teams the time they need to do justice to this amazing universe," said Bungie studio head Poria Torkan.
"We're not asking for your trust. We know we have to earn it."
Moving the raids, missions, activities etc. from the DCV into the game will take a little while, though, and Bungie doesn't have a set timeline.
"We're going to commit to unvaulting the Destiny 2 campaigns, the destinations, the raids that never should have been ripped away to begin with," said Josh Deane, head of product and GM of Marathon.
"It's going to take some time. I wish we could just flip a switch."
This is a big win for Destiny fans, and Bungie is making a strong promise to its players to rekindle the spirit of Destiny.
"We have to meet you where you are, build what you want, and reforge our creative soul to prove Bungie is still capable of building worlds that are part of your life, your time, your stories, and most importantly, your communities," Deane said.
"This is about reestablishing a relationship with you. And to do that, our mission is crystal clear: We need to restore Destiny to a place you can call home again."
As we move forward, we'll measure ourselves against a few core commitments:
- Build a stronger long-term future for Destiny, while honoring and restoring its past.
- Evolve Marathon to grow our community and build a sustainable future.
- Increase transparency around development priorities.
- Communicate more consistently, especially when plans change.
