TL;DR: Konami hopes to make Silent Hill an annual franchise after Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake sold 5 million and Silent Hill f sold 2 million. Producer Motoi Okamoto says yearly releases are the aim, with settings beyond America to avoid narrative fatigue; Townfall releases September 24 for PS5 and PC.

Konami has high hopes of turning Silent Hill into an annualized franchise with new releases every year.

The Silent Hill franchise has seen a major comeback, and it's all thanks to Bloober Team's stellar Silent Hill 2 remake. That game did so well that it sold 5 million copies, sparking Silent Hill f, which moved another 2 million units. Now the devs behind the series want Silent Hill to get a steady stream of new games and content, and while a fresh horror game every year seems unlikely, it's possible that Konami could have some sort of project prepared--whether it be a game, promo, or transmedia.

"Our aim is to, hopefully, have an annual release of new games," Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto said in a recent interview with GamesRadar+.

Okamoto also hints that Silent Hill could make more departures from America; both Silent Hill f and Townfall are set in overseas locales. "If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase."

To put Silent Hill's recent success into perspective: The series has sold an estimated 17.8 million copies, worldwide, across its entire lifetime. Two modern Silent Hill games--SH2 and f--have sold a combined ~7 million, meaning that this duo represents some 40% of total franchise sales.
