ASUS has confirmed pricing and a release date for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, its OLED-equipped upgrade to last year's Xbox Ally X, which we first saw at Computex back in June. Pre-orders are open now through ASUS and Best Buy, with units shipping October 15 for $1,299.99.
The obvious and biggest upgrade is a new 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED panel, up from the 7-inch LCD on the standard Ally X. Resolution remains 1080p and the refresh rate stays at 120Hz, but peak HDR brightness jumps to 1,400 nits, while OLED brings the usual deep blacks and higher contrast.

Alongside the display, ASUS has swapped in TMR joysticks for better accuracy and drift resistance. It has also added a mechanical D-pad toggle that lets you switch between a 4-way and 8-way layout depending on what you are playing. The X20 also gets a translucent black chassis with gold trim, but everything else carries over from the standard model.
As for pricing, $1,300 doesn't feel quite as absurd as it might have a year ago. The Lenovo Legion Go 2, which also features an OLED display and detachable controllers, is currently listed for $2,849 on Lenovo's official website, a whopping $1,369 above its $1,480 launch MSRP. With the ongoing RAMocalypse pushing hardware prices higher, $1,299.99 for a Windows handheld with a premium display suddenly doesn't sound quite as outrageous.

For those who want everything in one box, ASUS is also offering a $2,499.99 bundle pairing the X20 with ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, a Dbrand Killswitch case with kickstand, an extra 68W power adapter, and a Pelican hard case. The glasses normally cost $849 on their own, so the bundle math works out reasonably well if you were already planning to buy them.
