Huawei has been showing off its new MateBook laptop which is unbelievably lightweight.
As Notebookcheck reports (via VideoCardz), Huawei teased the MateBook Pro S ahead of its full revelation next week (on August 5), letting us know that the laptop somehow only weighs 798 grams.
That's a pretty incredible achievement for the weight of a notebook, and it's over a third lighter than the MacBook Air 13-inch - and almost 200 grams lighter than the featherweight LG Gram 14.
Technically, only a couple of obscure Fujitsu laptop models (which were mostly sold in Japan) are lighter than the MateBook Pro S. If you're looking at the global picture, as far as I'm aware, this Huawei laptop is as light as it gets. The MateBook Pro S uses a metal chassis, too, in case you were wondering.
In terms of specs aside from the weight, it's an ARM model built around a Kirin XE90 CPU with 10-cores (clocked at a very modest 2.45GHz). You get 16GB of RAM, though, at the entry-level (or 32GB if you prefer), and 512GB of storage (up to 1TB).
We don't know much else about the device - remember, the official unveiling is still to come - but we do know it has two USB-C ports (one on each side) and seemingly it's not passively cooled (vents on the underside suggest it has a fan).
There are two cameras and a very roomy touchpad, with the MateBook Pro S being available in five colorways.

As for when this device will go on sale, it'll likely be on shelves in August over in China, but as for a broader release, we'll just have to see. There is an additional catch on the software side, though, in that the MateBook won't run Windows 11, but Huawei's HarmonyOS instead.
