One of Xbox's oldest franchises might be the source for an interesting new type of content model. The new Halo remake has been updated with a clustered trio of missions that are effectively like mini-DLC for the campaign. Set under the name Operation Meteorite, this designation could open the door to more operation missions further down the line, giving Halo Studios a way to continue expanding Halo lore in a sellable package.

The new Campaign Remix feature looks to be the most innovative addition to the remake, and if it works as Halo Studios describes it, the mode could open up a new way for players to experience old games.

"Missions change - they always do. Return to any mission in the all-new Campaign Remix mode to randomize your experience with new enemies, new weapons, new visibility effects, and the most gameplay-modifying Skulls of any Halo campaign."

This new Halo release could end up inspiring other similar campaign-based shooter franchises to make their own remix mode, and the feature could end up turning into a new genre of sorts. The addition of new DLC would see Halo Studios releasing paid content for what is technically a 25 year old game.

We have to wait and see how exactly the Campaign Remix mode works--is it just a toggle feature, or something with a lot of parameters?--and whether or not the studio will actually release more operations in the future...but the fact that either of these two things have been added shows that Halo Studios has taken a very creative strategic approach to the franchise's legacy.

Also, we have to wonder if the rumored Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes will also have their own respective operations to expand the storylines even further.
