The upcoming Halo Campaign Evolved remake will have exclusive new missions where Master Chief basically crashes the Covenant's good time aboard a research/recreation ship.

Halo Campaign Evolved brings new missions to the classic Halo universe in a three-part story called Operation Meteorite. These prequel missions were co-written by sci-fi author Troy Denning, and one of them has a surprisingly humorous setup.
According to Halo Studios, the Operation Meteorite prequel missions center around Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson infiltrating a very specific Covenant ship--one we haven't actually seen in a Halo video game yet. According to games journalist Mr. Rebs, the ship is an agricultural research vessel that also acts as a kind of vacation ship for the alien invaders. It's a support ship that's not explicitly made for war, but instead a mix of business and pleasure, all while sinister things are going on underground.
So in a sense, Master Chief is catching the Covenant completely off-guard as they get some R&R on this ship. It's not all fun and games, though, and even this ship has the Covenant's guns, ammo, and war machines. But for the subjugated aliens, this kind of vessel is a sort of vacation...unless you're one of the hapless souls caught below.
Under the surface is where things get really interesting. There's a mad scientist Prophet on board who is doing some bizarre experiments on the Covenant, Dr. Mengele-style, and it's implied that this macabre magistrate was the creator of Halo's brute berserkers.
The studio explains more story details about the Meteorite missions:
"Set one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, Operation: METEORITE follows the Master Chief and Sergeant Avery Johnson as they infiltrate a Covenant agricultural ship holding orbit over the glassed human colony of Promise in search of data that could lead to the Covenant's fabled homeworld of High Charity.
"Over the course of three action-packed missions, the heroic duo must battle Sacristan warriors, liberate UNSC marines, and brave a series of bizarre experiments conducted under the watchful gaze of the mysterious San'Shyuum Minister of Harmony."
This was just a fun little observation that highlights the subtle humor of the franchise, and it's great to see Halo Studios is still setting up these kinds of scenarios.
Halo Campaign Evolved releases July 28, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and will have a 5-day early access period for the $70 deluxe version.
