TL;DR: Sony has raised prices for all PlayStation Plus tiers, including Essential, Extra, and Premium, across 1-month and 3-month subscriptions by 10-13%. This follows record $5 billion network service revenue and 125 million monthly active users, with Sony expecting even higher profits in FY26 despite some fan dissatisfaction.

Sony's recent PlayStation Plus announcement wasn't just concerning an Essential tier price hike--all PS Plus tiers across the 1 and 3-month options now cost more.

PS Plus Premium and Extra also got price increases, not just Essential tier 1

Just a few days ago, Sony confirmed a price hike for PlayStation Plus subscriptions. The announcement had apparently been misinterpreted, as it was believed the increase would only affect the Essential tier. That's not the case, and both the Extra and Premium PS Plus tiers are also becoming more expensive across their respective 30-day and 90-day offerings.

Visiting the PlayStation Plus website shows the new prices in effect. The price increases range from $1-5, with increases in the tune of 10-13% across the various tiers.

1-Month Subscription

  • Premium - $19.99 (old price $17.99) +11%
  • Extra - $16.99 (old price $14.99) +13%
  • Essential - $10.99 (old price $9.99) +10%

3-Month Subscription

  • Premium - $54.99 (old price $49.99) +10%
  • Extra - $43.99 (old price $39.99) +10%
  • Essential - $27.99 (old price $24.99) +12%

This comes after Sony just made a record-breaking $5 billion from network services in FY25, a segment which includes PlayStation Plus. Sony also recorded its highest-ever MAUs of 125 million in the fiscal year, and has indicated that subscription services are lucrative drivers of PlayStation's growth.

That certainly seems to be the case given these strong earnings, and Sony expects FY26 to deliver even higher profits for PlayStation.

Also, taking a closer look at Sony's announcement does show they technically weren't only talking about the Essential tier increasing in price. This snippet is telling:

"Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at..."

Gamers believed this meant Essential only, because that is the starter tier. But as we've seen, that's not the case, and fans aren't too happy about the realization.
