Sony continues raising the prices of its products and services in response to a uncertain global economic landscape.

The games industry continues to respond to worldwide market volatility in the most direct way possible: Increasing prices.
Just days ago, Sony recently increased the MSRP of its PlayStation 5 consoles in major regions including Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Now Sony is doing the same for the PlayStation Plus subscription service across various regions.
Sony has already raised PlayStation Plus prices in Southeast Asia (more info here), as well as in Australia.
PS Plus rates were also increased in South America too.
Canada is the latest region to get hit with a price hike. Yearly versions of PS Plus Extra subscriptions are hit the hardest with a +22.6% price increase, and one year of Extra now costs the same as a full year of Premium previously had.
The new PS Plus rates for Canada look like this:
- PS Plus Essential - $94.99 CAD -> $109.99 CAD (+15.8%)
- PS Plus Extra - $154.99 CAD -> $189.99 CAD (+22.6%)
- PS Plus Premium - $189.99 CAD -> $224.99 CAD (+18.4%)
While Sony didn't publish an official blog post on this price hike, the company did give a reason for the increase in previous announcements:
"Like many businesses around the world, we continue to be impacted by global market conditions and will be adjusting our local prices for PlayStation Plus. This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service."
Sony has stopped reporting PlayStation Plus subscriber numbers back in 2023.
