Trump Mobile data leak exposes only 30,000 orders, far below earlier claims of 600,000

Trump Mobile's website is reportedly leaking customer data, including names, addresses, and order numbers, and the fallout has seemingly already revealed a customer base that is much smaller than previously believed.

The breach, uncovered by YouTubers Voidzilla and penguinz0, suggests that the Trump T1 Phone may have only 30,000 pre-orders from roughly 10,000 unique customers, which is a stark contrast to the 590,000 figure once floated in early speculation.

The leak came through a simple security exploit, allowing access to a database that not only exposed customer information but also painted a bleak picture for the Trump T1 Phone's commercial viability. According to TechRadar, and the YouTubers, the hacker doesn't intend to use the information, which includes names, addresses, email addresses, and "everything short of a credit card number," said penguinz0.

With the T1 Phone still delayed and Trump Mobile failing to respond to the data leak, the situation could only worsen. If the data is still publicly accessible, as claimed, it could lead to identity theft and other security risks for those who pre-ordered, which is how the YouTubers got roped into the leak in the first place. Trump Mobile will need to act quickly to address the breach and rebuild trust, or risk losing whatever momentum it had left with the launch of its device.

Notably, Trump Mobile has been accepting $100 deposits for its device for the past year, and yet has still not been able to deliver on the device, with the Trump Mobile CEO only recently announcing devices are going to start shipping soon. Additionally, the company's terms and conditions explicitly state, "Trump Mobile does not guarantee that: the Device will be commercially released," or "production will commence or continue," or even that "delivery will occur within any specific timeframe."

"A preorder deposit provides only a conditional opportunity if Trump Mobile later elects, in its sole discretion, to offer the Device for sale," the website reads. "The deposit does not lock in pricing...Pricing and promotional terms may change at any time prior to purchase."

There was also that time, Trump Mobile was caught dropping the "Made in USA" marketing claim after taking thousands of pre-orders for the device.
