TL;DR: Starfield on PS5 Pro uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution to offer a 4K fidelity mode at 30 FPS and a performance mode targeting 60 FPS. It fully integrates DualSense features like adaptive triggers, dynamic lightbar, touchpad controls, and controller speaker for immersive gameplay. The release date is April 7, 2026.

Starfield will leverage the PS5 Pro's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology to deliver enhanced graphics and performance modes, the latter targeting 60FPS.

Today Bethesda confirmed that Starfield will support PSSR on PS5 Pro, enabling better visuals while in fidelity mode and boosted frame rates while playing in performance mode.

"On PlayStation 5 Pro, you can pick the look and feel that fits your playstyle. Pro Visual Mode delivers a 4K final rendering output targeting 30 FPS for maximum visual fidelity, while Pro Performance Mode targets 60 FPS for a faster, more fluid experience. Both modes are powered by PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling technology," Bethesda wrote in a new blog post.

The studio also made sure the PS5 version utilizes the platform's unique DualSense haptic technology. Starfield pretty much makes use of everything, including the controller's adaptive triggers for more tactile combat, touchpad support, voice output through the DualSense's onboard speaker, and having the lightbar dynamically adjust to your life--if you're about to die, the controller will warn you with a bright red light.

Starfield releases on PS5 on April 7, 2026. Based on the pre-orders charts in the US, it appears that gamers in Bethesda's home country are looking forward to trying out the PS5 version.

Check below for a quick list of what PS5 DualSense/haptic features the game will have:

  • Adaptive Triggers - Feel the difference from shot to shot. Adaptive triggers add physical resistance and feedback to the L2 and R2 buttons, giving different types of weapons (both ground and starship) their own unique feel.
  • Light Bar - The DualSense lightbar keeps pace with the action. It shifts color to match your health on the ground or your starship's status in space, pulsing red when you're in imminent danger and returning to white as you recover.
  • Touchpad - Quick presses and swipes on the touchpad make it easier to stay in the flow while exploring. Switch POVs by pressing the left side of the touchpad; open the map with the right side; press and hold the right side to activate your hand scanner; and swipe in different directions to access key menus like Inventory, Missions, and Skills.
  • Controller Speaker - Audio logs and ship intercom chatter plays directly through the DualSense controller speaker, pulling you deeper into life among the stars.
