One of the few criticisms of the first Battlefield 6 open beta weekend was the three maps that were available were all relatively small, which results in the tempo of the gameplay being quite high.
For those who aren't familiar with gamer-speak, tempo is commonly referred to in games as the pace or the momentum of play, specifically how quickly events, actions, or decisions happen and how much control players have over that pace. Smaller maps that cram 64 players onto the field of Battlefield result in an extremely high-tempo environment where players are constantly spawning, engaging with enemies, dying, and then respawning again.
For long-time Battlefield fans that enjoyed the large scope of maps found in previous games in the franchise, this tempo is far too high. Many of these players enjoy larger maps where they are alive for much longer periods of time. If you are one of those players, you will be glad to know that Battlefield 6 does feature larger maps, as a developer for the game has confirmed their existence, while also providing an explanation as to why they weren't present in the first open beta weekend.

David Sirland, a lead producer for Battlefield at DICE, responded to an X user criticizing the size of the maps in the open beta. Sirland said, "Speed is a factor of map size. We picked these maps to make sure we hit the full-octane version of Battlefield on the head - and made everyone see we can handle that too. Large maps exist, and the tempo scales accordingly; you'll be able to see soon enough!"
What is good to know is that it's been confirmed the upcoming second beta weekend does feature a new map called Empire State. However, we don't know how big that map will be.
