Road Rash redemption (ahem) is now free from the Epic store, and it's a nostalgic blast of comedy and chaos for those who loved the EA classic from 1991.

TL;DR: Epic Games Store is giving away two free games this week, one of which is going to appeal to those who fondly recall Road Rash. This is Road Redemption, a chaotic biking racer that involves combat, missions, and a roguelike campaign - it's well worth a blast. The other free game is 112 Operator, an emergency services dispatch simulator featuring realistic city maps.

The latest freebies from the Epic Games Store for this week are Road Redemption and 112 Operator.

Cast your mind back to 1991 and you may recall Road Rash, a game where you zipped along on a motorbike, swerving between other bikers and then hitting them with miscellaneous weapons to dispatch them from the race.

Road Redemption is the spiritual successor to the chaotic racing which defined that EA classic, and it came out in 2017 (see the 'Road Rash' timeline in the above YouTube clip for the full story).

And true, this more modern take remains a rather low-tech outing - it's a bit rough around the edges - but there's a lot of fun to be had with Road Redemption, especially given the asking price of nothing at all.

Expect to take out the opposition not just with an assortment of clubs, swords and the like, but also guns and explosives, while you're racing across rooftops with huge jumps to be negotiated.

Not every scenario is a straight race, either, as there are also missions with objectives and boss fights, in a roguelike campaign where you get to choose from various upgrades as you progress. If you want a simple blast of comic chaos in a bike racing format, Road Redemption delivers.

The other freebie here (these were flagged up by Neowin) is 112 Operator. This is a sim where you take the role of an emergency services operator, dispatching police, medics and firemen across a city in response to various disasters and incidents. It involves juggling a lot of balls and making some swift judgment calls.

112 Operator allows you to pick a city, and provides a full map of that environment, offering a heavy dose of realism with the map, which is pretty cool. It's an alternative to 911 Operator, with some distinctly preferring this take on the formula.
