Assassin's Creed Shadows launched in March, and while the game was encompassed in controversy, Ubisoft deemed it a success in its recent financial report, with the title acquiring as many as 5 million players. But now Ubisoft is looking to get even more players into the latest AC title, with the Ubisoft CEO saying the game will be arriving on "other machines".
Unless Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot is talking about the game releasing on a refrigerator with a display, it seems the only viable option left for a new platform release would be the Nintendo Switch 2. Notably, the Ubisoft CEO teased the release of Shadows coming to "other machines" during a financial briefing call where he also confirmed the release window for the first expansion to come to Shadows, Claws of Awaji. Guillemot was asked directly about the launch of Shadows on Nintendo's latest console, and he said that Ubisoft hasn't said what titles it's bringing to the Nintendo Switch.
However, that isn't all the pieces of the not-so-confusing puzzle. Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet said during the same call that Ubisoft's line-up for the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026, includes "a couple of other titles" that will be "announced at a later stage." Adding, "And we also have a game that will be launched on the Switch 2." But he didn't name the title. Notably, Star Wars: Outlaws was already announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, and Duguet was speaking about games "beyond the announced releases," which suggests there is another title in the works for a Switch 2 release.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is currently available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac. Additionally, the game is available on GeForce Now and Amazon Luna. Unless Guillemot is planning on bringing Shadows to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, or mobile, which I don't believe is actually possible considering the level of graphic fidelity and the techniques used to achieve it, Assassin's Creed Shadows seems all but officially confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of the fiscal year.
