Virtuos has announced that it will lay off about 7% of its workforce, or about 200 people. This implies that around 3,800 people had worked at Virtuos before the layoffs, and while the company is headquartered in Singapore, it had 25 offices worldwide.

A studio rep tells Eurogamer that the majority of Virtuos' layoffs will affect roles in Asia, with 70 layoffs being planned for Europe. Despite Oblivion Remastered's high-rising success, Virtuos will lay off 10 people from the French team responsible for Oblivion.

"We are grateful for the contributions of those impacted. We are providing separation packages, career transition assistance, and opportunities for redeployment across our global network where possible. The company's immediate focus is on managing this transition with care, transparency, and respect.

"We will continue to invest in global delivery, technical excellence, and creative collaboration, ensuring that Virtuos remains the partner of choice for the world's leading game creators."

Virtuos is a third-party game developer responsible for games like The Elder Scrolls Oblivion remastered and Dark Souls remastered, as well as support for Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Publishers and game studios often outsource work to Virtuos, which isn't a centralized studio but more of an international organization of teams.

According to the company's site, Virtuos has worked on over 1,500 games for nearly 1,000 clients.

Virtuos' latest game, Oblivion remastered, has been so successful that sales of the game vastly eclipsed the original 2006 game.
