NVIDIA currently uses SK hynix and Samsung GDDR7 memory chips for its GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, but Micron is about to step into the GDDR7 memory chip supply chain.

In a new report from Benchlife, supply chain sources have said that in addition to SK hynix and Samsung GDDR7 memory chips, NVIDIA has added Micron's new GDDR7 memory for its RTX 50 series. This means that there are now 3 versions of GDDR7 memory to choose from moving forward.
Micron announced its GDDR7 memory chips in a press release in 2024, announcing that it had started sampling GDDR7 memory chips. As it stands, Micron's new GDDR7 memory is available in two different versions: 28Gbps and 32Gbps, on its 1β process.
We don't know which GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs will use Micron's new GDDR7 memory chips, nor when AIB partners will get samples for verification.
Praveen Vaidyanathan, vice president and general manager of the Compute Products Group at Micron said when the company announced its GDDR7 memory chips: "Micron is once again at the forefront of memory innovation, developing the highest bandwidth solutions available, built with advanced process and interface technology to enable continued graphics performance leadership. The best-in-class capabilities of Micron GDDR7 memory help bring new levels of realism and performance to the most demanding applications".
