TL;DR: Microsoft has resolved a OneDrive search bug affecting all platforms except Mac, which caused searches to fail to find the target file (or to simply return a completely blank result). Users still experiencing issues should refresh their browser or restart their device to restore full functionality.

Microsoft has fixed a nasty bug with OneDrive, though you may need to perform the age-old tech trick of 'switch it off and on again' to restore full functionality to the cloud service on your device.

You may recall that the bug, which popped up in June, meant that some users - across all platforms except Mac (so that includes mobile and the web) - had search broken for them in OneDrive.

Whatever they searched for in the cloud storage locker wouldn't show up in the results presented (even though the files still existed - it was just that search wasn't registering them). Or worse still, the search result would just be entirely blank.

Thankfully, the irritating issue - for which there was no workaround, save for manually scouring through folders yourself - has now been resolved.

Neowin noticed that Microsoft stated:

"Search should work as normal now. If you still experience issues, please refresh your browser or turn your mobile device off & back on again."

So, there you have it. Only a limited number of users were affected, apparently, but those who were should now be in the clear. If you're still experiencing wonkiness with search, as instructed, power down your device and turn it back on, or refresh (or close, then reopen) your web browser.

This bug was first noticed a couple of weeks back, so Microsoft has been pretty on the ball in terms of getting it fixed with a degree of alacrity. Although that's only what you'd expect, really, given how much of a headache this could potentially be for those who encountered the bug.
