It was earlier this year that LG Display announced its new fourth-generation OLED technology for its TVs, and now the company is introducing that technology to its monitor line-up. The star of the show, so far, is a new 27-inch OLED display capable of hitting a mind-bending 720Hz.

Yes, that is right. 720Hz OLED monitors are real, or at the very least, are going to be available, as LG Display has announced that these panels have already begun production. According to the announcement, the new 27-inch OLED uses LG's proprietary Primary RGB Tandem structure, which enables the display to achieve a record-breaking peak brightness of 1500 nits - the highest among existing OLED monitors.

Moreover, LG explains the Primary Tandem Structure stacks red, green, and two blue-emitting layers to create a 4-stack tandem structure. This design enables a boost to luminance and contrast that produces sharper images and a better color reproduction rate of 99.5%. Furthermore, LG states its fourth-generation pixel technology blocks up to 99% of internal and external reflections, reducing glare down to an absolute minimum.

LG has also announced the world's first 540Hz refresh rate OLED monitor with a 2560 x 1440p (QHD) resolution. The company states it overcame the roadblock of going beyond 500Hz by implementing a proprietary new algorithm. Moreover, this same display can be reduced down to 1920 x 1080 (HD) for a blisteringly fast 720Hz. This panel has received the highest level of motion clarity certified by VESA, ClearMR 21000.

"Exceeding a 500Hz refresh rate had been considered a virtually unbreakable threshold due to the associated steep drop in picture quality. LG Display has successfully overcome this limitation by developing and applying a new proprietary algorithm. The 540Hz refresh rate goes beyond even the highest standards envisioned by professional gamers for OLED gaming monitors. Meanwhile, LG Display's proprietary Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology enables ultra-high refresh rate modes of up to 720Hz in HD resolution. DFR allows users to select their preferred refresh rate mode depending on the content," explained LG Display
