Phison had an astonishing new PS5028-E28 Gen5 SSD in the flesh at Computex 2025, pushing up to 14.9GB/sec in bursts, but a guaranteed 14.8GB/sec reads... and better yet: silently, and just sipping 7W while doing it.
The new Phison E28 Gen5 SSD controller is fabbed on the TSMC 6nm process node, with 8-channel with 32 CEs, and capacities of up to a gigantic 32TB. We've got a quad-CPU architecture, support for 3D TLC, the Phison 8th Gen LDPC and RAID ECC, and falls into the M.2 2280 form factor.

As you can see in the shot above, we've got 14.9GB/sec reads (14,942MB/sec to be exact) and 14.1GB/sec writes (14,149MB/sec to be exact). This is all while using just 7W of power, so you can install a Phison E28 Gen5 SSD into your laptop -- with the company using an MSI Raider GE78 HX laptop powered by an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, pushing 14.2GB/sec reads.
Phison says that its new E28 Gen5 SSD was benched against its slow-mo competitor, where their drive was using 7.39W of power in sequential sustained read power consumption, compared to the Phison E28 using just 6.17W in comparison (and power at these levels, really matters).
Phison also had 32 x of its new E28 Gen5 SSDs in 3 x Apex Storage X16 Gen5 AICs pumping a mind-benching 113GB/sec, which you can read all about (and drool-worthy) right here.
