As shared on X, the image contains the first official screenshots of Kingdom Hearts IV since the project was announced, including a glimpse at Sora, Mickey Mouse, Strelitzia, and the in-game world. The images arrived alongside a message from the development team, stating that they have been "pouring themselves" into the game-and that more news will be available "when the time is right."
Preceding the new screenshots, Square Enix posted an update to the Kingdom Hearts official website stating that Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, a mobile RPG that was also announced in 2022, had officially been cancelled.
"We determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development."
Kingdom Hearts IV has remained largely absent from the news cycle since its announcement in April 2022. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game takes place after the events of Kingdom Hearts III and its DLC, featuring protagonist Sora in a vast, urban world known as the Quadratum - the likely setting of the newly released screenshots.
Both the English and Japanese social media accounts posted the images clustered into a large, singular collage. However, there are slight variations in the large screenshot depending on the region.
There currently is no confirmed release date for Kingdom Hearts IV.
