TL;DR: Ubisoft is delaying major game releases, including Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed titles, to enhance quality and development. This strategy, proven successful with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will reduce releases in FY2025-26 but drive significant growth in FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 through stronger content from key franchises.

Ubisoft has announced it will be delaying the release of some major IPs and games to improve the game quality of some of its biggest franchises.

The publisher announced the delay during its end-of-year financial earnings report, where it mentioned the success of Assassin's Creed Shadows and how it can be attributed to the extra time the publisher gave to its developers via the delay.

Ubisoft wants to take that same approach with its other titles, and according to Insider Gaming, the delay will be affecting the next installment in the Far Cry series, which has now had its release date internally pushed to late 2026, and the Assassin's Creed pipeline.

According to Ubisoft, what will be a result of the delay is significant growth for the publisher during FY2026-27 and FY2027-28. However, FY2025-26 will have dwindling releases, with many of the publishers strongest brands now being pushed back to later release windows. Other titles that have likely been hit by the delay are the Splinter Cell Remake, which is internally codenamed "North", and the next mainline Ghost Recon game, codenamed "Ovr".

"After a thorough review of its pipeline that took place from October to December, the Group decided to provide additional development time to some of its biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success. This decision has already been beneficial to the quality of Assassin's Creed Shadows. As a consequence, FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant growth vs. FY2025-26 on the back of strong content coming from the Group's largest brands," states Ubisoft
