TL;DR: Mafia: The Old Country, launching August 8, 2025, offers a focused, linear crime story set in 1900s Sicily. Featuring protagonist Enzo Favara, the game delivers authentic era immersion, cinematic action, and refined gameplay on Unreal Engine 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at $49.99.

Although Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed to May 26, 2026, the next entry in publisher 2K's other organized crime series is set to launch on August 8, 2025. Alongside the release date announcement for Mafia: The Old Country, which is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, a new gameplay trailer showcases its "focused, linear" cinematic action.

The latest entry in the popular and long-running Mafia series is set in 1900s Sicily. Players take on the role of Enzo Favara as he "works his way up Don Torrisi's crime family." The trailer showcases several cinematic and gameplay elements snippets, including sections where Enzo is on horseback, driving a car, exploring ruins, and fighting through a lavish estate.

Although confirmation that the game will be linear might be a little confusing, even though Mafia has traditionally been compared to Rockstar's GTA series, most entries have been linear experiences set in open environments with minimal side activities. The vast locales are merely backdrops for the action.

"Mafia: The Old Country is a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion, and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay," said Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes. "That focus allows us to deliver a story that's gritty, grounded, brutal, and emotional. Embracing early 1900s era Sicily, this is a mafia origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi's crime family."

As the trailer shows, the developers aim to present a "period-authentic" representation of Sicily. So far, everything from the environments to the characters and animation looks very impressive, with the game running on Unreal Engine 5.

There's also good news for those interested in picking this up on day one, with 2K confirming that the Standard Edition of the game will be priced at $49.99 on PS5, Xbox, and PC. With all the talk surrounding game prices increasing, it's great to see this at $50. Of course, as we're talking about 2K, there's also a $59.99 Deluxe Edition that arrives with a bunch of weapon and clothing cosmetic items, the soundtrack, and a digital art book.
