TL;DR: Skyblivion is an ambitious fan remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the Skyrim engine, featuring overhauled dungeons, environments, and quests after 11 years of development. Bethesda fully supports the project, providing the team with Oblivion Remastered keys and confirming no shutdown plans.

Skyblivion is a fan remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, built within the Skyrim engine. We've been following this project for quite some time, with our most recent report on the ambitious game noting that its release is on track for 2025.

After 11 years of development from a passionate team of modders, Skyblivion is a remake in the proper sense in that it overhauls dungeon layouts, environments, combat, quests, and more. With Bethesda's surprise The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launch, you might wonder what this means for Skyblivion? Will there be a "cease and desist" now that Oblivion is back in the spotlight?

Nope. The opposite. Bethesda has provided its full support and blessing to the 50+ developers who have been painstakingly remaking Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. With the release of Oblivion Remastered, the studio has gifted each member of the Skyblivion team a copy of the game.

The Skyblivion team announced this on X, writing, "We're beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us."

In a follow-up post, the team adds, "Bethesda made it clear that they have no intention of shutting down our project," which is fantastic. One of the reasons Bethesda Game Studios releases go the distance and are played for several years of a decade and change, in the case of Skyrim, is that they embrace the community with modding tools and support.

Skyblivion is one of the most impressive and massive Skyrim mod projects ever seen (alongside Skywind, the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind remake). It will be an interesting release because it is more of a remake than a remaster. The only question is, will Oblivion fans want to replay the entire game twice in the same year?
