IGN reports that an official release date for the movie - March 26, 2027 - was provided courtesy of the Nintendo Today! app, which itself was only revealed yesterday as part of the Nintendo Direct event.
Unfortunately, we didn't get any other new details on the live-action flick, only the release date.
We've already been provided with some info on The Legend of Zelda movie, of course, including that it'll be directed by Wes Ball, which has buoyed the hopes of some Zelda fans - given that he's a fan of Nintendo's heavy-hitting RPG franchise.
In an interview last year, again highlighted by IGN, Ball said that the Zelda film needed to "feel like something real" and "something serious and cool but fun and whimsical." Yeah, it's all pretty vague, but the overall vibe is that as far as directors who might do this project justice go, Ball is higher on the list than most.
The live-action movie is being created in conjunction with Sony, and the release date announcement obviously provides a vehicle for pointing out that Nintendo will make some juicy revelations via the new Nintendo Today! app.
As you might have seen yesterday, Nintendo Today! is available on Android and iOS, and is a free app (with a silly exclamation mark) that delivers daily news on Nintendo games, hardware, and other bits and bobs like, well, this movie. It also provides users with the likes of animated calendars, event reminders, and so on.
