Our Verdict

While the performance of the B75 Pro isnt nothing spectacular the three-year warranty and low MSRP make this drive worth checking out.
Silicon Power Bolt B75 Pro Portable SSD Review 99

Portable SSDs have become quite normal over the last few years, and as NAND costs have come down the market for Portable SSDs has grown. Silicon Power is one of the handful of vendors to offer a full range of both desktop and portable drive solutions. Their latest is an update to the Bolt lineup; the Bolt B75 Pro.

Bolt is the portable SSD lineup for Silicon Power. As of this writing, they now have four offerings with the B75 Pro being the latest. This solution is offered in a traditional 2.5" format with a single black aluminum colorway. Capacity options range from 256GB to 2TB with performance rated at 520 MB/s read, and 420 MB/s write; this is a full 80 MB/s quicker in reading operations over the previous Bolt B75. Moving this drive into the future SP has equipped it with USB-C.

Compatibility includes Windows 7 and 10 along with macOS 10.3 and later. MSRP of the SP bolt B75 Pro in the 1TB capacity comes in at $147.99 with a three-year warranty.

Internally, the B75 Pro appears to use either an A55 or A56 solution paired with a USB-C to SATA bridge.

Silicon Power Bolt B75 Pro Portable SSD Review 10

Testing performance, we first used the A to C cable included in the box. With this, we reached 445 MB/s read, and 403 MB/s write.

Silicon Power Bolt B75 Pro Portable SSD Review 11

Switching to USB-C throughput opened slightly offering 479 MB/s read, and 464 MB/s write.

With testing complete, the B75 Pro is a tribute to the beginning of portable SSDs. Its traditional design offers both durability and a unique aesthetic appeal for those feeling nostalgic while at the same time offering high capacity storage. With 1 and 2TB options being the most popular, the B75 Pro takes advantage of its internal brothers A55 and A56 to offer a competitive solution for those wanting portable storage.

In testing, the B75 Pro was strong but wasn't able to reach the 520 MB/s read mark set by marketing, instead it peaked at 480 MB/s. As for write performance, we were able to eclipse the number set forth by marketing by a good amount reaching 464 MB/s.

As for pricing, the B75 Pro is up against some tough competition and with its MSRP coming in at $149.99 it's looking quite strong. For comparison, the Sandisk Extreme 1TB comes in at $169.99 while the Samsung T5 1TB touches $179.99 both slightly quicker than the Bolt B75 Pro, but in the current market, it may be worth taking the Silicon Power for a drive.

At an early age, Tyler's parents brought home their first PC. Tyler was hooked and learned what it meant to format a HDD, spending many nights reinstalling Windows 95.
