Introduction, Specifications, and Pricing
The ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop has been one of my favorite products to scope out in a while, packing an AMD Strix Point APU and dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU all rolled into a portable 14-inch laptop.
It has almost everything you can ask for: an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 "Strix Point" APU with 12 cores and 24 threads of Zen 5 processing power, with an integrated RDNA 3.5-powered Radeon 890M GPU, with a dedicated RTX 4060 Laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB Gen4 SSD.
ASUS packs a 14-inch 2560 x 1600 (1600p) resolution panel into the TUF Gaming A14 laptop, with a super-smooth 165Hz refresh rate, perfect for my gaming obsession: Overwatch 2, and enough APU power for my workloads during the week (and weekend, and every other spare minute to work).
We have a redesigned keyboard that is utterly joyful to type on, something I didn't expect in this tighter, ultra-thin form factor. The design is good, but not great. However, that is a personal aesthetic you'll have to decide on. Let's dive into the review of the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop. ASUS has the TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop starting at $1399.

Overview
The ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop arrives in a lightweight 1.46kg design, in a super-thin 1.69cm chassis, and is totally USB-C powered. ASUS uses large rear exhaust vents that also keep the APU and GPU cool and quiet.

There are dual M.2 SSD slots inside of the TUF Gaming A14 laptop, ready for up to 4TB of Gen4 SSD storage if you're installing a hefty amount of games, storing media on the laptop, or using it on-the-go for content creation and other workloads.
32GB of RAM is the maximum upgrade here, with LPDDR5X-7500 memory. It would've been nice to see up to 64GB, but that is for higher-end ROG gaming laptops, so 32GB it is... which is enough for most (but not all) people.
Features + I/O
ASUS includes 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A, 1 x USB4 Type-C, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, 1 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x 3.5mm audio combo jack, and a microSD card reader on its TUF Gaming A14 laptop.

The inclusion of a full-sized HDMI 2.1 port means you've got some nice-and-easy 4K 120Hz display output abilities, where you might have a big screen 4K 120Hz TV in the living area and want to plug your TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop into it... well, you're in good hands here, even in this form factor.
Detailed Look
Right out of the box, the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop looks mean: it's not the most expensive in ASUS's range - that's reserved for ROG - but this looks tough (pun intended).

Even the underside of the laptop looks mean.

The 14-inch 1600p 165Hz display is nice and thin, not OLED thin, but it's thin... you get the idea.

It's an ultra-slim design that was great for me to fold down the display, unplug the power cord, and slide it into my backpack in seconds. There wasn't any fiddling with the bag like you get with some 16-inch (or larger) laptops.

I find it very hard to adjust to other keyboards to have my speed and accuracy where they normally are, but the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 keyboard has been redesigned, and you can feel it. It's great to type on, with good spacing between the keys and a nice touch to them for all-day usage, whether it's working or gaming.
Benchmarks (Synthetic + CPU + SSD)
CrystalDiskMark

The 1TB Gen4 SSD inside of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop pumps away at 5GB/sec (5047MB/sec) writes and 3.6GB/sec (3643MB/sec) during SSD testing under CrystalDiskMark.
Cinebench R24

Cinebench R24 is the very first benchmark I run on new silicon as it arrives through the door, with the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 and its Strix Point APU (12 cores, 24 threads) neck-and-neck with the same APU inside of the higher-end ROG Zephyrus G16. We're talking 1119 points versus 1133 points, not bad at all, considering a higher-end desktop 7800X3D inside of a full system scores 1055 points.
3DMark Speed Way + Steel Nomad

3DMark Speed Way and Steel Nomad have the TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop, and its Strix Point APU + RTX 4060 Laptop GPU handling things well once again, nearly matching the slightly beefier RTX 4070 Laptop GPU inside of the higher-end ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop.
We have 2895 points versus 2801 points for the TUF Gaming A14 versus ROG Zephyrus G16 in Speed Way and 2665 points versus 2569 points in Steel Nomad.
3DMark TimeSpy Extreme + TimeSpy

The same results are visible with TimeSpy Extreme and TimeSpy benchmark runs of 3DMark, as the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU isn't that much slower than the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.
Benchmarks (Gaming)
Now, let's dive into some gaming benchmarks on the ASUS TUF Gaming A14:
Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a hard game to run, it's no surprise... with the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop and its RTX 4060 Laptop GPU spitting out 38FPS average at 1600p on the Ultra preset with DLSS disabled, compared to 44FPS on the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. Not bad for an ultra-thin gaming laptop.
Turning on Ray Tracing, Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction, as well as DLSS to Quality, we have the TUF Gaming A14 spitting out 51FPS average, close to 60FPS if you dialed in some of those visual settings. DLSS is set to Performance, and we have a 70FPS average, which is not bad at all.
Black Myth Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong has close to the same results with a 58FPS average at 1600p native with DLSS disabled on the TUF Gaming A14 versus 67FPS on the ROG Zephyrus G16.
Turning on DLSS and setting it to Quality sees the TUF Gaming A14 drop down to 30FPS... which isn't great for me, but alright for others. DLSS set to Performance, however, and performance skyrockets to a totally playable 77FPS average thanks to the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU inside.
Forza Horizon 5

Forza Horizon 5 screams on the TUF Gaming A14 with 139FPS average at 1600p on the Ultra preset with DLSS disabled while hitting around 130FPS if DLSS is set to Quality or Performance. I'd enjoy some more quality if you're getting 120FPS+ anyway.
Forza Horizon 5 is such a joy to play on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop with 167FPS average on the High preset at the native 1600p resolution.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider

87FPS average from Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1600p on the TUF Gaming A14, down from the 120FPS on the ROG Zephyrus G16. DLSS set to Quality, and we have a 101FPS average, while DLSS on Performance nets an impressive 124FPS (far behind the 169FPS out of the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU inside of the ROG Zephyrus G16).
Performance + Thermals + Battery Life
Performance Thoughts
ASUS redesigned the keyboard for the TUF Gaming A14, and you can (literally) feel it under your hands as you type.

I'm quite a fast typer, and the keyboard on the TUF Gaming A14 could keep up with me... so there's a winner. The keys have a nice depth to them, with a real nice tactile (yet soft) feel to them, something you appreciate after a few hours (or more) of using the keyboard.
I used the laptop in multiple scenarios, including gaming on the go at my partner's house, working in another room at home, and as my workstation PC for all-things TweakTown, which are many, many hours throughout the week, each week. The ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop handled it like a champion. I don't need ALL the cores, and the TUF A14 laptop provides enough power at its price point and form factor.

As for battery life, we're looking at under 2 hours of full load - but that's not surprising. Under my usual workloads for TweakTown content (Chrome browser, for the most part, with a bajillion tabs open), the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 lasted for most of the day without an issue (brightness on 75%).
ASUS doesn't do anything super surprising when it comes to audio, with the A14 featuring dual bottom-mounted speakers, which means if the laptop is... on your lap... the audio isn't so great. Maybe we could see those bottom-mounted speakers blasting audio out of the sides of the future A14 gaming laptop, hey ASUS?
Battery Life + Charging
I was getting around 9-10 hours of video playback (Netflix 720p with 50% brightness), which isn't too bad at all... there are laptops with better battery life, but the A14 gaming laptop isn't a battery slouch, either. Charging is done through USB-C, too.
Final Thoughts
In my few weeks with the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop, I came to love it: it offered me ultra-portable power, enough to run my daily workloads, and some 165FPS+ gaming on Overwatch 2. The AMD Strix Point APU + RTX 4060 Laptop GPU combination is perfect in this 14-inch form factor.

ASUS does ASUS with the TUF Gaming design, something that I enjoyed on the TUF Gaming A14. There's no massive RGB bling, the tight 14-inch display is crisp, the keyboard is great to type on, and it's light enough to quickly fold the display down and throw it into your bag.
This is the smallest TUF Gaming laptop that ASUS has ever built, which is my favorite part about it. It's just 1.69cm thin and weighs only 1.46kg, meaning it is ultra-portable but packs some APU + GPU power to handle 1600p gaming at 165FPS.
If you are after something that packs some regular laptop and gaming grunt, ASUS has a thin-and-light TUF Gaming A14 gaming laptop with its Strix Point APU and RTX 4060 Laptop GPU that offers a potent mix in this form factor. Definitely give it a look!
