The Last of Us Part II is shaping up to be Naughty Dog's magnum opus, at least insofar as overall size and dramatic story impact. Neil Druckmann says the sequel is the studio's "most ambitious and longest game in our 35 year history," and affirms the team needed to make a huge game to chronicle Ellie's harrowing journey of hate and revenge.

"To tell this kind of story the game needed to be massive," Druckmann said in a recent PlayStation Blog post.

And massive it is indeed; The Last of Us Part II is so big it won't fit on a single disc. A recent Best Buy pre-order listing confirms the game will ship on two Blu-ray discs and may clock in at over 100GB on PlayStation 4. The two discs should include an install disc and a play disc, and both will need to be installed on a hard drive before play. The PlayStation Store listing has yet to clock in a file size for the sequel.

With The Last of Us Part II, we can expect more emphasis on open-ended exploration alongside dynamically-woven story elements to bring a true sense of cinematic gameplay and survival. There will tons of shocking violence, gore, and mayhem, and even more opportunities to pull at our heart strings. This time around Ellie takes the lead while Joel jumps in as a side-kick.

The Last of Us Part II releases on February 21, 2020 exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.

A Complex and Emotional Story

Experience the escalating moral conflicts created by Ellie's relentless pursuit of vengeance. The cycle of violence left in her wake will challenge your notions of right versus wrong, good versus evil, and hero versus villain.

Encounter new survivor groups, unfamiliar and treacherous environments, and terrifying evolutions of the infected. Brought to life by the latest iteration of the Naughty Dog engine, the deadly characters and world are more realistic and meticulously detailed than ever before.

Tense and Desperate Action-Survival Gameplay

New and evolved gameplay systems deliver upon the life-or-death stakes of Ellie's journey through the hostile world.
