Audiences continue to hold a special place in their hearts for Steven Spielberg's sci-fi classic 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial' and one super fan has shelled out a huge amount own a slice of its history.

A piece of original artwork created by artist John Alvin which served as the iconic theatrical poster went up for auction yesterday and according to the Associated Press it was snapped up by an anonymous bidder for just under $400,000. Its previous owner was 'The Simpsons' writer and producer Bob Bendetson.
