Nintendo plans to launch its next-generation NX game console sometime in 2016, and its supply chain manufacturing partners will begin initial test production in October, according to a report published by Digitimes. Mass production won't begin until next May or June, with a rumored July console launch, the article claims.
The NX is said to be a home console, but additional details have been extremely scarce. We know that gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto won't be involved much - and Nintendo is worried Sony and Microsoft would steal ideas from its new console.
In addition, Nintendo wants to be prepared to ship around 20 million units during the first year of release, which would be an extremely strong product launch. Since launching in 2012, the Wii U has shipped about 9.5 million units worldwide - and looks like it will become the poorest selling console in Nintendo's history.
