The Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus announcement may have underwhelmed most mobile phone consumers, but still racked up 4 million pre-orders in a single day. Interested owners may have to wait until October before they receive their new iPhone, due to the large volume of orders placed by Apple customers.
The iPhone 5 reached just two million units during launch pre-announcement two years ago, the company said. It's a rather fascinating launch for a device that received a large amount of hype, but didn't overly impress customers that were sitting on the fence about purchasing a new phone.
"Assuming preorders are similar to the 40 percent of first weekend sales for the iPhone 5, this would imply iPhone 6/6Plus first weekend sales could be around 10 million," wrote an analyst from Wells Fargo securities.
The 6 Plus had a wait time up to one month, while the regular iPhone 6 should be available for delivery on its release date of Sept. 19.
