TL;DR: Blizzard's Matt Cederquist hinted at possible Diablo 2 Resurrected changes-over 200 unique items could be reworked, major runewords like Spirit and Stealth may be adjusted with community input, and skill/class balance tweaks are being considered while preserving Diablo 2's core identity.

Blizzard's Matt Cederquist teases some changes that could eventually come to Diablo 2 Resurrected, but nothing has been announced or confirmed yet.

Blizzcon 2026 came and went without any major Diablo 2 news, which makes sense, because they actually revealed Diablo 5 instead. So what's next for Diablo 2 Resurrected? Blizzard didn't reveal anything concrete, but game lead Matt Cederquist did discuss some of the things that could pop up in a future update.

Cederquist talked about potential D2R plans with MrLlamaSC, touching on topics like unique item reworks, changes to powerful runewords like Mosaic and Spirit, and even skill balancing. But don't worry--Blizzard wants your ideas before they do anything to Spirit or Stealth.

All of the things mentioned here are theoretical and may happen. Nothing has been confirmed or announced yet.

On the topic of unique item rebalancing, Cederquist said that they've identified over two hundred items that could be spruced up.

"There's actually 211 perfect items that we could potentially touch, that would make everyone really excited."

Blizzard really wants feedback on how to change up some big runeword staples like Stealth and Spirit. These OGs have been in the game for quite some time and can be quite overpowered.

"There's things that we do want feedback. At the end of the day, you have things like you hit level 17 and you slam your Stealth, and you hit level 23 and you put your slam on your Spirit...it's like, you're good until hell, does that really feel good? It kind of takes away from itemization.

"The feedback that we really want to hear is that...if we did anything to Spirit, or to Stealth, or these real staples, what does the community at large feel about that?"

Cederquist was directly asked about skill balancing and whether or not things like being able to teleport in the Druid's Werebear form could show up in the game at some point. Any changes have to adhere to the heart of Diablo 2, though.

"I think all that stuff is on the table, based on feedback. Some of it is a slippery slope, right? If we really dig into what D2 is, we really have to live up to what philosophically what D2 is and not change the essence.

"And also, pushing the RPG into the future a little, and bringing that class balance."

There's been no reveal of any more D2 content, and last year's big surprise release with Reign of the Warlock may end up being the only real big Diablo 2 content for some time.
