Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is having a moment again, three years after launch, thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to new estimates from Alinea Analytics, the game has sold roughly 316,000 extra copies since the movie hit theaters on July 30, generating around $11 million across PS5 and Steam in under two weeks.
That latest jump pushes Marvel's Spider-Man 2 past 18.2 million lifetime copies sold and over $1.2 billion in total revenue, with 92% of sales still coming from PS5. Alinea's head of market analysis, Rhys Elliot, said discounts played a role but weren't the main driver here. Pricing data from the platform apparently shows hype from the movie did most of the heavy lifting.

During a February PS5 sale at $29.39, the game moved around 6,300 copies a day. At that same price during the film's release window, it's moving closer to 15,000 copies a day, roughly 2.4 times the average rate and peaking as high as 4.5 times on the busiest day. Steam tells a similar story, with a flat $40.19 price point selling 2.3 times what the same discount pulled in back in June.
About 20% of the film-window PS5 copies were physical, and another 274,000 players jumped in for the first time through PlayStation Plus's Extra and Premium tiers. Daily active users reportedly crossed one million this past weekend for the first time since launch week, roughly 2.6 times pre-movie engagement. Insomniac also tied in the free "Fresh Start" suit from the movie and a PSSR upgrade for PS5 Pro owners around the film's release.

This isn't the first time we've seen a movie or show pull an older game back into the spotlight. We covered something similar with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which saw a 90% jump in daily active users across Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation after Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey hit theaters. This was shortly after an earlier Steam-only bump we tracked when the film first released.
It also builds on what we reported last week, when Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man 2 both climbed into Steam's Top 10 following the movie's record-breaking opening weekend. Elliot called the Spider-Man effect "one of the clearest transmedia halo effects" Alinea has measured. This looks like a rare case of a franchise's film and game sides feeding each other years apart.
