Subnautica 2 has passed another sales milestone, this time breaking 4 million sales in just a matter of days--all while in early access on consoles and PC.

Unknown Worlds' management looks to be well on their way to those bonuses after all as Subnautica 2 has proven to be a multi-platinum hit. The game has surpassed 4 million copies on PC and Xbox n just 5 days, the developers have announced in a new press release. These numbers indicate that the sequel now makes up more than a quarter of total Subnautica franchise sales--as per the studio, the series has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide, outselling other franchises like Silent Hill (17.1 million) and Dragon's Dogma (14 million).
"We're incredibly grateful for the response from players around the world. Seeing millions of players dive into this new world during Early Access has been an incredible moment for the team. Community feedback continues to help shape the future of Subnautica 2, and we're excited to keep building the experience together with our players," said Fernando Melo, Executive Producer of Subnautica 2.

These sales seem to reflect the accelerated consumer appetite for software that has been prevalent throughout 2026--this rapid adoption has led to millions-strong sales of early access games like Windrose (1 million in 6 days), as well as the strong sales of Slay the Spire 2 (3 million in 7 days).
Subnautica 2's development will evolve with community feedback in mind--Unknown Worlds sees early access as a "collaboration with the community"--and the studio has already issued a response message to address key points of concern from players, including hostile enemy behavior.
The game's success is tied to a substantial $250 million bonus that Krafton may be contractually bound to pay if specific earnings and sales thresholds are met. If Subnautica 2 continues these kinds of sales, then it seems likely that the studio will reap the benefits, strengthening the group in the process.
