Microsoft's decision to break first-party game exclusivity has led to chart-topping sales on competitor platforms, and one analyst firm estimates that this strategy has made Forza Horizon 5 the best-selling PS5 game of 2025 so far.

Forza Horizon is one of the most popular racing franchises in existence, and it's been said to make more money than all of its competitors combined. The once-exclusive Xbox game crossed over to PS5 in April, and Forza Horizon 5 did so well that Microsoft took over Sony's own PlayStation Store with 4 out of the top 5 best-sellers.
New reports indicate that Forza Horizon 5 is now the best-selling new PS5 game of the year. Alinea Analytics estimates that FH5 has sold a total of 3 million copies to date, up 1 million units from launch.
"Forza Horizon 5 sold 2 million copies on PS5 in 25 days after launch (you might remember that Assassin's Creed Shadows only just passed that milestone after four months)," Alinea's Rhys Elliott said.
"Forza Horizon 5 is doing so well on PS5 that it's even sold more copies than Astro Bot."
Remember that this data is based on estimates, and that Microsoft typically does not reveal sales info for its games or hardware. The Xbox division only gives out revenue, monthly active users, and maybe an update on Xbox Game Pass subscribers--and sometimes, Microsoft's CEO will pay attention to our coverage for a quick data blurb on a quarterly report.
Reports also say that Xbox executives made the decision to effectively shut down the Forza Motorsport franchise to focus exclusively on Forza Horizon, but this remains unconfirmed.
