We have all heard about the recent driver updates for nVidia's GPUs and the performance they bring. In fact it has been all over the net in review after review with handpicked cards and game titles.

Now it seems that ATi is going for a counter attack. This attack will be a two front assault. Not only will we see improved performance but ATi is going to revive its streaming processing initiative to compete head to head with Cuda in the GPGPU video encoding arena.

Fudo over at Fudzilla talks more about ATi's claims here.

ATI did a good job with RV770 based Radeon HD4870 and 4870 X2 based cards and we've heard that they did well with its mainstream 46x0 and entry level 4550 and 4350 cards. The new driver should make them even more attractive and according to AMD, the new driver should transcode video content to a portable device such as PSP or iPhone significantly faster than Nvidia. If they are right CUDA might be i trouble.
