New data underlines just how big FromSoftware's Elden Ring franchise has grown in such a short span.
FromSoftware recently announced sales updates for both Shadow of the Erdtree and the new Nightreign spinoff. According to the figures, Nightreign has sold 5 million units (including pre-orders) so far, a great performance for a multiplayer-only spinoff; to put these numbers into perspective, some AAA games are lucky to hit 5 million sales, let alone a side game that requires users to always be online.
Shadow of the Erdtree is now at 10 million sales, up from the 5 million sales figure that Bandai Namco reported shortly after launch (Erdtree had hit 5 million sales in 3 days, making up more than half of Bandai Namco's total game sales for the quarter).
All-told, the Elden Ring franchise has now surpassed 45 million game sales worldwide.
Back in April of this year, Bandai Namco announced the base game of Elden Ring had surpassed 30 million sales on all platforms.
This success also has splash-over to one of Japan's biggest entertainment giants.
Sony has invested directly into FromSoftware, and more recently, Sony also invested into Bandai Namco, the publisher behind FromSoftware's Elden Ring games.
Kadokawa plans to expand Elden Ring further with new transmedia like a live action film with 28 Days Later director Alex Garland at the helm.
Reports indicate that FromSoftware is working on its next game--which is undoubtedly so, given it's a game development studio--codenamed FMC, however it remains unclear whether or not Miyazaki's principal team has moved on from Elden Ring.
