Acquire, the Japanese dev behind the classic Tenchu series, has announced that it's working on three new projects. Acquire has signed a multi-year partnership with Red Dunes Games in the first Japan-UAE collaboration deal of its kind. Red Dunes is mostly known for publishing and co-developing sidescrollers with retro graphics, including metroidvania Silent Planet, and is also making a new Samurai Pizza Cats game.

"The two companies will co-develop a slate of original IPs that blend world-class Japanese craftsmanship with bold, global creative vision," reads the press release.

There are three games in the first wave, and these titles are currently in development:

  • Project Tremor
  • Project Umbra
  • Project Shadowcar

"Each title explores a distinct genre and vision: from city-shaking kaiju battles, to dark fantasy hunts, to a shadowy espionage thriller."

The games will be in new franchises/IPs. Since FromSoftware and Activision own the rights to the Tenchu series, the odds of seeing a new Tenchu game from Acquire were already slim. While it's been years since the last Tenchu game, Acquire has still been active in the industry and actually helped Square Enix make Octopath Traveler.

"As ACQUIRE, a studio that has long valued originality from Japan in game development, we are thrilled to have found a wonderful partner in Red Dunes Games and embark on a bold new global challenge together. We've always believed in the power of originality. Now, with Red Dunes, we're building something truly international,"said Takuma Endo, CEO of ACQUIRE Corp.
