Apple might decide to hold back its next-gen MacBook Pro and Air models with the M5 chip until 2026, a fresh rumor suggests.
This is from a regular contributor of Apple-related rumors, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who cites the usual anonymous sources providing some new details on the next Macs.
We're told that the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air M5 were originally due for a 2025 release, as has been the chatter on the grapevine so far, but that Apple is now 'considering' delaying the release of those notebooks to 2026. No reason is given for why this might be happening.
The key point there is that Apple is only mulling such a move, and may yet think better of it, even if this rumor is correct at this point in time. Gurman says the "timing remains fluid" but that Apple is internally targeting an early 2026 launch for new MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models.
It sounds like the MacBook Air M5 models will follow the Pro laptops, arriving in the first half of 2026. So, that could mean an early spring launch for the MacBook Pro M5, followed by a June debut for the Air M5.
We're also told that this incarnation of the MacBook Pro will be the final iteration of the current design (which was introduced back in 2021). The MacBook Pro for 2027, or late 2026 perhaps, will be the all-new OLED model which has been long anticipated.
Early next year, we're also told to expect new iPads and iPhones - including a budget iPhone 17e - as well as a possible external Mac monitor, plus fresh Apple Watch models.
