Fed up with Windows 11 serving 'suggestions' to you? More of this is on the way, sadly

The lock screen is the next part of the Windows 11 interface to get suggestions, this time for widgets, or at least this functionality is hidden in testing.

TL;DR: Windows 11 has a "discover widgets" feature that suggests additions to the lock screen, although it's only hidden in testing at the moment, and not actually live. For those groaning at this development, the good news is that if it is realized, there's an option to turn it off.

Windows 11 already does a fair bit of recommending apps and the like (or indeed promoting Microsoft's services), and we're apparently going to see a bit more of that behavior - this time with the lock screen.

As leaker PhantomOfEarth on X noticed (see the above post), there's a new 'discover widgets' ability inbound for Windows 11, although not officially at this stage (it is hidden in testing right now).

This will add suggested widgets to the lock screen presumably based on your past usage, and that'll happen 'periodically' according to the blurb describing the feature.

To be fair, seeing potentially interesting widgets surface from time to time might be a useful feature for some folks, but we're betting there will be more people who don't want this.

The good news is that the setting nestles under the personalization options for the lock screen, so it's something that you can turn off if you don't want it. Hopefully it'll be off by default when Microsoft does finally introduce this to testing with Windows 11.

Widgets on the lock screen have witnessed a fair bit of tinkering this year, including finally getting the important ability to customize which of these appear on the screen (rather than having the whole lot, or nothing).
