Shortly after leaks revealed the specifications and design for Sony's upcoming WH-1000XM6 headphones, Sony itself has confirmed a May 15 launch for the product.
As detailed in the leaks that surfaced on Thursday, the XM6 headphones are expected to retail at $449.99 USD. The new headphones are set to offer a range of improvements over their predecessor, including a new QN3 HD processing chip, an AI-based six-microphone system, and enhanced features like adaptive noise cancellation and intelligent ambient mode.
The leaked specification sheet also outlines the return of a foldable mechanism, 30 hours of battery life with 1 minute / per hour charging, and that the model will arrive in black, platinum silver, and midnight blue.
Sony Australia was the first to confirm the May 15 launch, with the leaks correctly predicting a window between May 14 and 16. Sony took to its Instagram, posting a teaser video of the headphones, along with an Australian date and time for the event (equating to May 15, 12 PM ET in the US).

Sony Corporation's Official channel has since scheduled a product announcement on YouTube with the same graphic, and a US time and announcement date.
For seeking an upgrade in the headphone category, Sony's WH-1000XM6 will be a popular candidate. The XM4/XM5 series is known for delivering excellent all-around performance for most users, and based on the leaked specs, the XM6 will be no different.
While at this stage, the upgrades seem rather iterative - the new design, AI-enhanced features, and improved noise cancellation might pique your interest. To find out more about what these headphones have to offer, tune into the live stream when it kicks off May 15, 9AM PDT / 12PM ET.
