Grand Theft Auto 6 just got its second trailer - as you doubtless won't have missed - and it racked up almost half a billion views across all platforms (not just YouTube) in the first 24 hours after release.
Rockstar informed The Hollywood Reporter that the trailer scored 475 million views in total in the first day.
As we reported previously, the first trailer managed over 90 million views on YouTube in its initial 24 hours of existence, and this second trailer has still yet to beat that, sitting on 86 million views (or just over) at the time of writing.
However, if you consider all platforms - not just YouTube, but Tiktok, Instagram, Twitch, X, and so on - trailer number two has blown away the first effort (remember that trailer one was a YouTube exclusive, and didn't appear anywhere else).
In fact, the report points out that Rockstar claims this is the biggest video launch ever seen based on the first 24 hours of viewing figures, beating the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer which racked up 365 million views. So, Grand Theft Auto 6 outdid that by a cool 100 million, and with no Super Bowl airing needed (as was the case with the Marvel superhero movie).
The Hollywood Reporter also observes that The Pointer Sisters song which features in the trailer, 'Hot Together', has shot through the roof for streams on Spotify, with listening volume increasing by a factor of approaching 2000x no less.
To say excitement is building around Grand Theft Auto 6 is an understatement, even though the release date was recently pushed back to May 26, 2026.
While that's caused disappointment, the magnitude of this game launch can't be underestimated for Rockstar, so it's not surprising that the developer wants to nail this one.
Rockstar also clarified in a post on X (see above) that the graphics you see are entirely in-game, as captured on PS5. So, this is the level of visual quality you can expect, even if some of the trailer is obviously cut-scenes (and some of it actual gameplay).
