TL;DR: The Shadow Syndicate, an upcoming noir-inspired action game by Killasoft, features a retired soldier detective unraveling conspiracies in 1930s Brooklyn.

While gamers await the release of The Wolf Among Us 2, which is reportedly still in development. The next best thing might be The Shadow Syndicate, which was recently announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC.

The Shadow Syndicate, developed by Colombian indie studio Killasoft, drops players in the paws of Sam Marlowe, a retired soldier turned private investigator who seeks to unravel a city-wide conspiracy involving secret societies, occult forces, and a looming darkness in 1930s Brooklyn.

The game promises a "rich cinematic experience", blending noir storytelling with fast-paced gameplay. Players will investigate secrets within the gloomy recreation of Brooklyn - interrogating NPCs, solving puzzles, and discovering clues, in a story that mixes vibrant city hubs with focused missions and side quests.

The gameplay lends itself to a stylish approach, engaging players in cinematic gunfights with bullet-time, stealth takedowns, and a myriad of Dishonored-style supernatural abilities. The immersive sim elements are somewhat reminiscent of Deus Ex, while the gunplay and detective gameplay call back to Max Payne, and LA Noire.

One of the most distinctive elements of the game is its art style. The Shadow Syndicate takes a cinematic, cel-shaded aesthetic - and mixes animal-based appearances across its otherwise human cast of bartenders, pedestrians, and police officers. Set to the backing of a frantic jazz soundtrack, atmosphere is a key focal point of The Shadow Syndicate - an element the team appear to have nailed effectively.

The game is currently without a release date, but is currently available to wishlist on Steam. To keep up with the studio's latest, you can also follow Killasoft on X.
