China has officially responded to President Trump's newly announced trade tariffs with its own tariff on American goods, with the nation now hitting the US with an 84% retaliatory tariff.

China has now officially imposed an additional 84% tariff on all US-imported goods as a response to the US imposing a 104% tariff on all Chinese imports. The trade war between the US and China, and not to mention the rest of the world, has reached new heights with this recent announcement from China being the latest in growing tensions between the two nations. Moreover, China's Central bank has instructed state-owned banks to reduce their US dollar purchases, which is a move that indicates the country is moving away from its reliance on the US dollar.
China is the only country preparing relalitatory tariffs against the US as European Union member states have also approved retaliatory tariffs on $23 billion in goods in response to Trump's 25% tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. The response from China comes after Trump announced the US was raising its tariff on China to 104%, with the president of the United States recently saying the following:
"Any country that Retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional Tariffs, above and beyond their already existing long term Tariff abuse of our Nation, will be immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set," Mr Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Monday, US time
"If the US insists on further escalating its economic and trade restrictions, China has the firm will and abundant means to take necessary countermeasures and fight to the end," the Ministry of Commerce wrote in a statement
