RSI announces that CitizenCon will be digital-only this year so that the team can focus directly on Squadron 42's development.

Squadron 42's been in development for quite some time, but RSI has pinpointed a 2026 release for the project. The singleplayer game commands star power with actors like Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, and Gary Oldman bringing Squadron 42 to life.
RSI intends to hit this 2026 release target and is devoting their time and efforts into Squadron 42. The announcement comes shortly after Star Citizen broke a milestone in funding by reaching over $800 million in total development funding to date.
In a recent post on the RSI blog, the studio reiterated their focus:
Our primary focus this year is on pushing Squadron 42 toward its targeted release next year, and continuing to improve the overall playability of Star Citizen with every patch.
The team is hard at work on our upcoming major milestones, and energy is high as we push forward.
Squadron 42 is progressing well as we work toward next year's release, and across Star Citizen our focus remains on delivering meaningful, measurable improvements and fresh content with every patch.
With that in mind, we're doing things a little differently this year.
While there won't be a traditional in-person CitizenCon in 2025, we're thrilled to introduce CitizenCon Direct--a special digital showcase that brings the excitement straight to you.
This year's format helps us keep the momentum going while still giving the community something truly special to look forward to.
Mark your calendars for October 11-you can expect plenty of reveals, exciting surprises, and a fun way for many of you to take part in the festivities alongside CIG developers, no matter where you are in the world.
