The Bottom Line
D-Link is well known for its wide range of IP camera solutions, many of which we have reviewed in the past. With the use of new technology, D-Link has now come to market with a new indoor camera solution named the DCS-2630L.
The 2630L is perhaps the only consumer solution on the market making use of a highly wide viewing angle. At 180 degrees, it's nearly 30 degrees more than the next best camera on the market. Adding to this, this solution is fitting with 802.11ac wireless technology, along with 1080p Full HD capabilities. A closer look at the features lists adds in two-way audio support, night vision support, along with on-board micro SD and motion/sound detection. Minimum requirements include an 802.11b/g/n/AC capable network and internet connection should you wish to use this camera for remote access. On the PC side, you will need a 1.3GHz CPU with 128MB of RAM running at least Windows Vista or OS X 10.6.
MSRP of the D-Link DCS-2630L is set at $199.99 and comes with a one-year warranty.
Starting off with packaging, we have the camera pictured on the front of the box with many of its features highlighted within the artwork.
The side of the box goes into more detail on the features of this camera.
Above, we have the scope of delivery that includes a quick install card, manuals, and hardware to mount the camera.
A closer look at the camera reveals the motion sensor at the top with the lens in the center.
The entire backside of this camera is covered with a mesh plastic as the speaker for two-way audio resides here.
To get a better look at the SD slot, we put the camera on its face. In this position, you can also see the power input on the bottom and WPS button on the side.
The DCS-2630L uses the myD-Link Lite app available on Google, Apple, and Windows app stores.
Launching into software, this camera setup is about the same as it always has been for any D-Link camera. We first tell the app we want to add a camera then the wizard progresses us through several screens resulting in, what we hope, is a working solution.
At the end of this process, that takes anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes, you should have a working camera. Something of note here is this is an indoor camera. I, however, set this camera up outside on a sunny day to get a better image with more color depth. As you can see the quality is quite remarkable, considering connectivity is wireless only, and the router is 30-40ft away.
Diving into my final thoughts, the DCS-2630L is possibly the best wireless camera I have ever had from D-Link. I love the image clarity I get from this camera, I love that this camera works on 802.11ac, and I love the functionality of the myD-Link Lite app over the smart home app. Adding to this is the build quality that is a few steps above the 2330 and 2332L I reviewed in past reviews, and the base of this camera feels much more substantial.
The wide angle lens is excellent, although being 180 degrees it does fish-eye, and this is the first solution I have had from D-Link with two-way audio, so that was a pleasant addition as well.
As for performance, I was quite pleased with how well this camera did on Wi-Fi. I wasn't quite sure with my router being a good distance from the camera, how well it would do while streaming, but other than a second or two of delay, it was solid. Adding to this, the image clarity of this solution is just top notch; I don't think I have seen anything better in the last few years I have been at TweakTown.
The downside of this camera is with all the new fangled features and upgrades; it comes at a cost. With the MSRP of this camera being set at $199.99, the price is quite high and most likely out of reach for many consumers. With that said, if you can swing it you won't regret it as the 2630L is about as good as it gets at this stage.

The Bottom Line: D-Link's DCS-2630L is a cutting edge IP camera with many features including its signature Ultra-Wide 180 degree viewing angle. Of course, this comes at a price, but that's truly the only thing hurting it.
