Titanfall 2 is finally here, with developer Respawn Entertainment coming out and explaining that there will be no Season Pass released for their second mech shooter in the franchise.

Respawn Entertainment confirmed the news in a blog post, explaining that Titanfall 2 isn't a typical shooter: "No Season Pass required: all maps & modes will be free in Titanfall 2 Multiplayer. This means no splitting up the community and it all starts with the legendary Angel City map, remastered from the original Titanfall".

They continued: "This means once you've purchased Titanfall 2, your investment includes a full single player campaign, the full multiplayer maps and modes, and long-term support with no hidden costs. You can pre-order the game to play 3 days early, but it will never cost you extra".

Verizon acquires Vessel, will shut it down on October 31

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Oct 27, 2016 1:17 AM CDT

Verizon has announced it is acquiring subscription video service Vessel, but it's the swift closure of Vessel that is surprising.

Vessel worked with YouTube giants and other video creators in its first few months on the block, offering early access to their videos for $2.99 per month. The company raised over $130 million from investors, too. Jason Kilar was Hulu's former CEO before he founded Vessel with Richard Tom, who was Vessel's CTO - Tom will stay with Verizon/Vessel, but Kilar won't be around after the transition of the acquisition later this year.

In a blog post, the Vessel founders said: "At the heart of this transaction is the Vessel technology, product and team that we have built. These three things will be married with Verizon's ambitions in online video. Though the team and the actual tech + product will live on at Verizon in ways that will become apparent in the months and years ahead, sadly we will be sunsetting the Vessel service at the end of this month (October 31)".

Nintendo investors hate new Switch console hybrid

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 27, 2016 12:39 AM CDT

Nintendo's investors don't like the company's new Switch console, with many seeing the company's stubborn push to carve out its own space in the console world a risky gambit.

Nintendo investors hate new Switch console hybrid

When the Nintendo Switch was unveiled a week ago, Nintendo's investors were less than excited about yet another home gaming console. As a result, Nintendo's shares actually dropped 6.5% after the Switch reveal; conversely, Nintendo's shares skyrockted 4.6% after Nintendo's pre-reveal Switch teaser Tweet, adding "more than $1 billion" to the company's market share.

To date, the Japanese games giant has had its shares slip almost 10% since the Switch reveal, which certainly shows how optimistic stakeholders are about the system.

Nintendo teases Jan 12 event for 'major' Switch details

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 26, 2016 11:31 PM CDT

We've been bombarded with teases of Nintendo's next-gen Switch console, but we don't know much about the launch, its games that are in development, or the pricing on the codename NX console that is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra processor.

Nintendo has now announced it will be livestreaming an event for Switch on January 12, 2017 - with Nintendo saying in its press release: "This will be an event for invited media, financial analysts, and trade partners in Tokyo that will be globally livestreamed on Jan. 12, U.S. time. The presentation will include the launch date and pricing for Nintendo Switch, as well as a look at the lineup of games currently in development".

Nintendo will be providing an exact start time "in the coming weeks" for the event, but it will be hosting Switch "sampling events" for media, partners, and consumers in the US and Europe at later dates. Nintendo added: "There will be opportunities for the public to participate in other hands-on events around the same time, details of which will be announced later".

Dolby Atmos update coming for Xbox One S

Ben Gourlay | Celebrities & Entertainment | Oct 26, 2016 10:43 PM CDT

The surprise inclusion of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray playback on the Xbox One S which effectively made it the cheapest 4K player on the market was lauded by gamers and video geeks alike, but when the console came to market it quickly became clear that it wasn't quite as proficient as a stand-alone player. The lack of support for bitstream audio means that the console doesn't quite meet the full spec, making immersive audio standards such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X not possible. But in the case of the former at least, Microsoft is promising an upcoming fix.

According to Engadget, the company has committed to providing owners with a free update to enable bitstream audio from the HDMI port "sometime in the future". Of course, to get the full benefit you're also going to need a reciever that supports Dolby Atmos, as well as at least another two height speakers, but the company's promise will be welcomed by audio fanatics.
