TL;DR: Modders imported leaked 2014-15 Rockstar assets from the 2022 breach into GTA 5 on PC to recreate an early, rough Vice City map with placeholder textures, floating labels, and loose resemblance to modern GTA 6 footage; assets trace to a 192GB archive (some from Rockstar India).

An extremely early version of GTA 6's map has been recreated inside GTA 5 using leaked Rockstar development assets, giving players a playable look at how Vice City was taking shape more than a decade ago.

The build reportedly uses material dating back to around 2014/15 that recently surfaced as part of a roughly 192GB archive connected to Rockstar Games' 2022 data breach. Modders have since imported the unfinished map data into GTA 5 on PC, allowing portions of the early environment to be explored.

Popular Now: Rockstar's next game after GTA 6 is already confirmed, but it isn't Red Dead Redemption 3

Unsurprisingly, the result is extremely rough. Streets and terrain use basic placeholder textures, while floating labels mark potential locations and development ideas. The recognizable city area only loosely resembles the modern Vice City Rockstar has shown in official GTA 6 footage, highlighting just how early the leaked material is.

Tech4Gamers reports that some of the leaked material originated from Rockstar India, although the wider archive itself traces back to the 2022 breach that also produced around 90 GTA 6 development videos. Because these assets are more than a decade old, they should not be treated as representative of GTA 6's finished map, but it likely won't stop people from looking at the old map and drawing comparisons based on what we have officially seen from Rockstar.

Question #1

Will this leaked map recreation work on consoles, or is it PC-only?

It is described as a GTA 5 PC recreation, with modders importing the unfinished map data into the PC version. Nothing in the story indicates console support, so this specific build is only supported here as PC-only.
Question #2

Why shouldn’t the leaked 2014/15 map be treated as representative of GTA 6’s final world?

Have a question that isn't listed here? Ask below, and TweakBot will answer it.

Rockstar has not commented on the recreated map or the 192GB archive that internet sleuths are currently digging through. GTA 6 is officially scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and if you were wondering what Rockstar has planned after GTA 6 finally arrives in gamers' hands, it won't be Red Dead Redemption 3.
