With the iconic PC brand Commodore under new management, the team behind the reimagined, FPGA-powered Commodore 64 Ultimate computer has partnered with CD Projekt RED to create a custom special-edition Commodore 77. Inspired by the retro-futuristic look of Cyberpunk 2077, the design mimics something the game's Seocho Electronics brand would create, with a lived-in look that fits perfectly in Night City.
The Commodore 77 features a custom metal plate packed with details like graffiti tags, and it will also ship with an "original demo" built to "expand the lore of the Cyberpunk universe" on an exclusive Arasaka cartridge. Another nod to the game's world, the demo also includes an original soundtrack recorded on Commodore 64 hardware, with the Commodore 77's lighting synchronized to the music.
In the announcement, Peri Fractic, President, CEO, and Chief Product Officer at Commodore, notes that the collaboration between the two companies came about organically. Basically, the higher-ups at CD Projekt RED are big fans of the Commodore 64, so this collaboration is all about a shared love of both properties and creating something that feels right for both.

"I have been a fan of the game since its release, and it was rewarding to learn in my discussions with their Joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, that he was a lifelong Commodore 64 fan," Peri Fractic said. "This has been a collaboration where art imitates life, and in turn, life for the denizens of Night City now imitates that art. We hope they enjoy their new terminal."
"As an old-school PC gamer myself, I can still remember when the Commodore 64 was the pinnacle of gaming tech," Patrick Mills, Franchise Content Strategy Lead at CD Projekt RED, adds. "Commodore's legacy wasn't the only thing that excited me, though. The tech in Cyberpunk 2077 is chunky, tactile, and substantial - meaning that the Commodore 77 can really feel like a device lifted straight out of the game world and onto your desktop."
On that note, the Commodore 77 features an AMD Artix 7 XC7A100T processor that now hits 77MHz, a massive boost over the original Commodore 64's 1MHz processor speed. As an authentic FPGA device, the Commodore 77 and Commodore 64 Ultimate are compatible with 99% of the 10,000 or so original Commodore 64 games and apps. Rounding out the impressive design of this special edition release, the Commodore 77 also features a Cyberpunk 2077-themed BASIC 2.0 boot screen and new menu colors.
