With its strong price point, the Backup Plus Portable is one of the best bang for your buck portable solutions available.

As I have mentioned many times in the past, Seagate is a constantly evolving company always on the move designing new solutions refreshing product lineups. Part of its latest refresh was the Backup Plus portfolio, today we have the latest 4TB Portable solution in house.

As was the case with the new 2TB Slim we reviewed a month or so back, the new Backup Plus Portable offers several capacities and colorways including Blue, Black, and Silver in both 4 and 5TB options. Connectivity is via USB 3.0 with additional support coming from included software bundles from Adobe CC and Mylio Create.

Compatibility includes Windows 7 and 10 along with macOS 10.12.4 and later. MSRP of the Seagate Backup Plus Portable in the 4TB capacity reached $129.99 with a two-year warranty.

Performance of the Backup Plus Portable came in at 110 MB/s read, and 120 MB/s write.

The Backup Plus portfolio for the longest time has been one of the best bangs for your buck lineups in portable storage. Seagate continues this with-it latest refresh offering the same high capacity solutions of the last generation with a new blend of plastic enclosure and colored aluminum. Keeping costs down, Seagate has also chosen to stick with the micro B USB 3.0 interface for this run which does take away from consumers that have upgraded to USB-C.

With that said, there isn't a real need for increased performance within the enclosure of the Backup Plus lineup, the drive used internally is your basic Barracuda 5400RPM drives. In testing, I was able to reach 110/120 MB/s, which is pretty decent for a portable HDD.

In closing, the Backup Plus Portable is still the tried and true workhorse we all need it to be, and with its latest refresh enjoys a sizeable price cut. The 4TB model tested here today enjoys a $129.99 MSRP; $20 lower than the previous generation.
