Introduction & Specification Details and Close-up

Low-profile keyboards, which feature thin profiles and thin laptop-style keycaps, are an acquired taste. However, it's a style of keyboard that can compete with a modern traditional mechanical keyboard, and when you find the right one, it's easy enough to be swayed. Like any keyboard, you still need quality switches that offer a response you can feel alongside comfortable and well-laid-out keys. On top of that, your usual customization, build quality, and additional features enter the picture.

There's no denying that low-profile keyboards can look sleeker, more minimal, and even more modern than your usual keyboard. But, this was only part of the reason Logitech's original G915 low-profile keyboard from 2019 became a seemingly overnight success - and a highly sought-after keyboard amongst gamers, creators, and general enthusiasts. The all-black aluminum frame gave it a premium feel, while the mechanical switches were extremely comfortable. It also didn't hurt that it was a full-sized keyboard with ample room for dedicated media keys, a scroll bar, and dedicated macro and profile keys.

Fast-forward to 2025, and now we've got the new Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Keyboard, a sequel several years in the making and one that arrives in a very different PC hardware and keyboard landscape than what we saw in 2019. Since the arrival of the original Logitech G915, things like hot-swappable switches, multiple layers of dampening, mounting, stabilizers, and magnetic adjustable switches have changed the gaming keyboard landscape.

As great as the Logitech G915 LIGHTSPEED was (and probably still is for those still rocking one), there's always room for improvement. And that's what the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED represents: a new and improved flagship low-profile wireless mechanical gaming keyboard that delivers the ultimate low-profile comfort and responsiveness. Does it succeed? Yes, but like the original G915, it's still a costly proposition at $259.99.

Design & Software

Design

The Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Keyboard resembles the original non-X model; however, the design has undergone several under-the-hood changes. As for the overall look, the sleek all-aluminum and thin profile is still impressive all these years later, with the G915 X standing at an impressive 22.6mm at its highest point (and that includes the keys). The spacious layout is still perfect for those who love macros, customizing keys, and setting up profiles, with 9 G-keys, soft dedicated media keys, and a robust roller.

The keycaps are the most significant initial difference with the new Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED for those who have used the original. Shifting to a double-shot PBT-style keycap offers better long-term resistance to wear and tear and fading, but the texture feels much better and is in line with modern mechanical keyboards. It's a welcome change, and when coupled with the thicker aluminum top plate, it simply feels better to type with. The new keycaps also include a shine-through finish for the RGB lighting, so the lighting is more vibrant, letting you lower the brightness when in wireless mode to conserve battery life.

The Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED is a versatile keyboard with tri-mode connectivity that supports Logitech's low-latency 2.4 GHz LIGHTSPEED technology, Bluetooth, and a wired connection over USB-C. The ability to connect both the keyboard and mouse to the wireless receiver is also a nice touch for those with limited USB ports. However, for a premium keyboard that is up there in terms of price, the included USB cable is rather basic, which is disappointing. Little things like a high-quality braided or coiled cable can go a long way,

The other significant change with the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED arrives with the redesigned low-profile GL mechanical switches. With the actuation point reduced to 1.3mm from 1.5mm, the new switches are quieter, snappier, or more responsive than those found in the original Logitech G915 LIGHTSPEED. Unfortunately, even though Logitech offers Clicky, Tactile, and Linear variants, the switches are not hot-swappable, which is a shame because it limits the customizability of the board and prevents being able to change or refresh the switches down the track.

Software

Like all Logitech G peripherals, customization is handled by the company's G Hub software, a modular app that only downloads what you need for the Logitech devices you are using. Regarding customization apps, G Hub is one of the better ones. In addition to detailed customization tools and features, you also get a nice little introduction tailored for the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED that steps you through its features and customization options.

With dedicated G-Keys on the keyboard and the ability to remap every key, alongside setting up multiple different functions that can also be triggered by a compatible Logitech mouse's G-Shift button, the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED is one of the most customizable boards currently available. With KEYCONTROL, you can set up multiple modifiers on a single key, so Alt+E, Ctrl+E, Shift+E, or any other combination can trigger anything from opening an app to firing off to triggering a sound or anything. It's a deep and powerful set of tools and an excellent feature for the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED.

With per-key RGB lighting, you've also got control over brightness and effects, and you can easily set up different zones. With new double-shot shine-through PBT keycaps on the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED, the lighting here is far more impressive than the original, so setting up personalized lighting or syncing it with other software can deliver some stunning results. However, the keyboard's battery life does suffer when you crank the RGB brightness to 100%. Another nice touch is that a key's secondary functions, like the dollar sign next to 4, also light up, which is not something you usually find.

Another excellent feature of the G Hub software is that you can set up and assign different profiles for different apps and games, with the ability to store multiple profiles on the keyboard. Finally, regarding system resources, we found Logitech's G Hub software to be relatively lightweight when running minimized, taking up around 80MB of memory in a 32GB system.

Gaming Performance and Productivity

Gaming Performance

The linear switches in the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED model we were sent for review have an actuation point of 1.3mm, a total travel distance of 3.2mm, and an actuation force of 43g. They make it one of the fastest and smoothest gaming keyboards we've tested. Low-profile keycaps and switches might be an acquired taste, but the performance is excellent when using the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED in either wired USB or LIGHTSPEED wireless mode.

Playing several games, including DOOM: The Dark Ages, Marvel Rivals, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Diablo IV, and Half-Life 2 RTX, it didn't take long to adjust to the low-profile Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED. The improved keycaps are excellent, and the switches are responsive and snappy. However, we noticed some occasional wobble on the larger keys compared to other premium gaming keyboards with full-sized keycaps that we've reviewed. This could be due to the low-profile nature of the keyboard or the switch stabilizers. One final gaming feature to cover is the dedicated gaming key that, by default, disables many of the usual suspects, like the Windows Start key, for uninterrupted PC gaming.

Productivity

With Bluetooth functionality, deep customization, dedicated media keys, high-quality switches, and a sleek, low-profile form factor, the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED is probably one of the best gaming keyboards that doubles as a productivity keyboard. You could argue that the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED is a better productivity keyboard, which is probably why a lot of creators and professionals who also play games are drawn to the keyboard. The only issue for some might be the shorter actuation point, which could lead to unintended keypresses for those who do a lot of typing, as this style of responsive switch is traditionally meant for competitive gaming.

Keyboard Click Sound Level

To test a keyboard's overall sound level, we use the Ozito Digital Sound Level Meter, capturing the sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" multiple times and recording the maximum dB level. This indicates how "loud" the switches used are for everyday usage. The following chart showcases where the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Keyboard sits.

Final Thoughts

There's no denying that the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Keyboard is a premium keyboard that lives up to that promise thanks to its fantastic build quality, aluminum shell, excellent keycaps, and responsive switches. But even so, the high price tag makes the negative aspects (as few as they are) stand out more. The lack of hot-swappable switches in a premium keyboard like this, even a low-profile one, is disappointing. As was some of the key wobble we experienced sporadically when using the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED extensively over several weeks.

Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Keyboard Review - A Classic Reborn 9

Ultimately, the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Keyboard is a notable improvement over the original, but keeps the same overall look and feel. The improved keycaps, new switches, and more robust build quality are more than enough to keep the Logitech G915 relevant and something that will be highly sought after for years. It's excellent for gaming and productivity and is one of the market's most customizable (software-wise) gaming keyboards.
