Introduction & Specification Details and Close-up

Versatility in a wireless gaming headset can mean several things. Still, at its core, it's the ability to connect to a wide range of devices - be it a PC, a console like the PlayStation 5, a portable device like the Steam Deck, or even a smartphone. Dual connectivity - the ability to switch between low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth sources - is available in most new wireless gaming headsets, and it's the sort of feature we've come to expect. The new Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset, which brings back one of the company's most beloved audio solutions, is a versatile mid-range solution built for gaming, no matter where that happens.

Versatility, comfort, and audio quality often become the primary focus of a headset review. Still, a vital component can frequently get overlooked or set aside - the microphone. From competitive gaming to co-op gaming to simply jumping into a Discord channel to catch up with friends, clear and background-noise-free chat is still one of those things that can get people asking, 'Hey, what headset are you using?' The reason for this is simple: gaming headset microphones and chat quality are often serviceable - it works, but it's nothing special.

The Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset is a friendly little reminder that even in the mid-range wireless gaming headset market, you can still find a solution with a fantastic microphone rivaling a dedicated mic setup. It might not be an all-in-one solution ready for streaming or creating professional-quality video content, but it stands heads and shoulders above most gaming headsets in its price range. On top of the impressive microphone, you've got warm and immersive audio bolstered by Dolby Atmos on PC and Tempest 3D Audio on the PS5, with a lightweight build that is comfortable enough to wear for hours. Let's dig in.

Design & Software Support

Design

Weighing in at just over 300 grams, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset is one of the lightest wireless gaming headsets currently available. Being lightweight reduces the fatigue of wearing a headset for hours, but it's not the only marker for comfort. The Corsair Void Wireless v2 employs a d-shape for its earcups, with breathable microfiber and memory foam offering a comfortable seal. Even though the size of the cups and cushions didn't quite cover my ears during testing, the sound quality was still immersive without any noticeable audio bleed interfering with the frequency range. It's comfortable enough to wear for hours, a big plus for gaming.

The headrest features a similar fabric and memory foam finish to enhance comfort, which is nice. Outside of the cushiony aspects of the Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset, the entirety of the construction comprises plastic, including the extendable headband and hinges. Being made from plastic is not a bad thing; the Corsair Void Wireless v2 is both flexible and sturdy. However, without a metallic headband or hinges, there's a chance that with regular wear and tear, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 might not last you as many years as, say, a more premium headset with high-quality aluminum or other metalling component that reinforces their shape or frame.

Corsair has opted for a flexible but traditional flip-up and down microphone for the Corsair Void Wireless v2. It's not detachable or retractable, which detracts from its dual purpose as a pure audio headset you can take on the go. On the left earcup is where you can find all of the controls, from the power button that acts as a quick and seamless way to switch between low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth, to a larger button that acts as a fast way to pause audio, and a single volume dial. The volume dial is also a button that you can customize and assign to just about anything using Corsair's iCue platform. This one surprised us, as you usually don't have the option to reassign button functionality on a headset.

Rounding out the physical design are two RGB light strips on the left and right cups that add a little subtle flair to the design without becoming a distraction. Seeing RGB on a wireless gaming headset is uncommon and can be disabled or adjusted via software. Even with lighting, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 offers up to 70 hours of battery life over 2.4 GHz wireless, with 6 hours available after a quick 15-minute charge. That last bit is excellent because the Corsair Void Wireless v2 doesn't offer a wired audio option, whether over USB or traditional 3.5mm.

With large 50mm drivers, the Corsair Void Wireless v2's default sound is best described as warm and punchy. This emphasizes that, no matter what you're listening to, the low-end bass comes through without adversely affecting the soundscape. On PC, there's also support for Dolby Atmos for headphones via the native Windows app, which is one of the more impressive spatial audio solutions for PC gaming. As mentioned in the introduction, the omnidirectional microphone on the Corsair Void Wireless v2 is excellent, even though the 100Hz to 8kHz frequency response is lower than the 10kHz you can find on more affordable headsets. Microphone quality is something you can never really get a sense of from specs alone, and it's one aspect of the Corsair Void Wireless v2 that makes it an excellent choice for those who play multiplayer titles or regularly chat when gaming.

Software Support

Like all Corsair products, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 uses the company's iCue app and platform for customization. Although iCue often gets put into the 'bloatware' basket because it supports everything from system fans to memory to keyboards and AIO coolers, the latest version only downloads the components that you need. It's not the lightest Windows app on the market, but when running in the background, it doesn't take up too many resources (with three Corsair components on my system, iCue took up around 150-200MB of memory).

Using iCue to customize the Corsair Void Wireless v2 is straightforward, and Corsair also offers guides on how to make changes. iCue offers one 'key assignment' for the Corsair Void Wireless v2, which allows you to assign or change the functionality of the volume scroll wheel's button. If you're not a fan of flip-to-mute, this can become a mute button for the microphone, or you can use it to fire up an app like Dolby Atmos.

For audio customization, you can tinker with a 10-band equalizer in iCue that offers three basic presets - Movie Theater, FPS Competition, and Bass Boost - on top of the default Pure Direct mode. However, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 is limited in that it is designed for Dolby Atmos, which requires firing up the dedicated Dolby Atmos app for additional customization. An app on top of another app is a little clunky, but this is the norm for most Dolby Atmos headphones and headsets.

In iCue, you can also adjust the overall intensity of the RGB lighting, adjust the amount of time of non-use before the headset automatically turns off, boost the microphone's pick-up, and toggle battery-life notification. In-depth microphone controls that include software-based noise cancellation are handled via NVIDIA Broadcast. You'll need a GeForce RTX GPU to access these features of the Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset.

Performance & Microphone Quality

Performance

Using the Pure Direct preset, which represents the non-spatial out-of-the-box sound of the Corsair Void Wireless v2, the overall audio quality is immediately impressive. With a detailed midrange and crisp highs, the only real downside is that the bass feels artificially tuned. Listening to bass-heavy music with sub-bass frequencies begins to feel like a bit much. There's no distortion; for the most part, it doesn't overpower the other frequencies, so it's something to keep in mind. Overall, the stereo response is wide and enveloping, with great channel separation, making the Dolby Atmos option excellent for PC gaming.

Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset Review - Immersive Sound, All-Day Comfort 11

Typically, DOOM Eternal is one of my go-to games for testing a headset, but with the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, I couldn't resist re-playing through the early parts of the game with the Corsair Void Wireless v2 and Dolby Atmos turned on. From the music, to the weight of the Slayer's step, to the crunch of melee hits, to the sizzle of plasma guns shocking demons, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 is fantastic for games with a lot of action. The spatial audio is excellent here, and in a game like DOOM, where enemies are all around you, the immersion is cranked up when you put this headset on.

Switching over to PlayStation 5, it was a similar situation playing Assassin's Creed: Shadows with Sony's Tempest 3D Audio enabled. A much slower-paced game, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 picks up all of the nuance and detail in the score and the beautiful Japanese countryside, from distant chatter to the wind blowing through cherry blossoms. When paired with a spatial audio solution like Dolby Atmos or Tempest 3D Audio, which are both subtle and fantastic for gaming, the beefier bass of the Corsair Void Wireless v2 doesn't stick out as much as it does when listening to music, which does point to the headset being tuned first and foremost for gaming.

Microphone Quality

The Corsair Void Wireless v2's microphone gets as close to broadcast quality as possible for a mid-range wireless audio solution. The recording above was captured using the default out-of-the-box sound, which doesn't allow hardware-based noise cancellation. When connected to a PC, as long as you've got a GeForce RTX graphics card, you can access influential AI-powered NVIDIA Broadcast features in the iCue app - stuff that can remove the sound of a lawnmower or hairdryer, while still retaining fantastic chat quality.

Final Thoughts

After spending a few weeks with the Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset, using it as my main driver for PC and PlayStation 5 gaming, it's safe to say that it's one of the best options in its price range. For one, it's super comfortable - a gaming headset you can wear for hours with minimal fatigue or stress. And with a design built for Dolby Atmos on PC and Tempest 3D Audio on PS5, you've got immersive sound with detail, clarity, and booming bass when needed. And with low-latency wireless and Bluetooth support, it can connect to a wide range of devices, including gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck.

Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset Review - Immersive Sound, All-Day Comfort 5

However, it's not perfect (and really, very few gaming headsets or headphones can tick every single box). The all-plastic build and non-detachable or retractable microphone can feel like shortcomings, and the default bass-heavy tuning does require some equalizer tinkering when listening to music, unless you're all about that bass. And there are a few minor things, like no wired support, holding it back a bit. Ultimately, these can be overlooked as the Corsair Void Wireless v2 delivers comfort, excellent surround sound, and chat quality, with battery life that should last most gamers weeks between charges.
